We had a very positive and productive meeting with town council last night! This was our basic proposal: We (the committee) are asking the town to designate land for a spray park. We will raise the funds for the spray park, which will include the following things: splash pad with water features, modern playground, shade/landscaping, benches/picnic tables, fencing (for safety), adequate parking, and most importantly FREE access! Based on our research, this may cost $500,000. After completion, we will gift the park to the town, who will then need to pay the yearly operating costs (estimated at $30,000 annually). They were encouraging, and asked some great questions that we will work on answering over the next two or three weeks. Our next step is to meet with the Parks and Recreation Board to discuss possible locations. Town Council will conduct some of their own research, and we hope to have a final decision in the coming months. My personal opinion about our meeting: It reminded me that these things dont happen overnight. There is a great deal of planning and prep work that needs to be done. I still think three years is a reasonable timeline for this project. We have a real vision for this park, and we want it to be awesome- something the town can be proud of! And secondly, I was really impressed by our town council members. Their questions and concerns were constructive and encouraging, and they were very welcoming. I really think that were going to be able to make this happen!
