We had too much fun this morning planting the seeds for the 1/3 - TopicsExpress

We had too much fun this morning planting the seeds for the 1/3 acre Ladybird Wildflower Meadow at Lake Eufaula Dam Site South. After mixing the seed with vermiculite and spreading it, the Eufaula Middle School student council covered it with a thin layer of straw and then tamped it down by foot. To commemorate the Beautify America efforts started by Ladybird Johnson in 1960s, the Eufaula Middle School has worked on this site at the Eufaula Dam LBJ Dedication Memorial since last summer. The site was prepared for planting with help of Team Up to Clean Up and the Corps of Engineers. Three sycamore trees were also planted in the acreage, to provide future shade. The student council members also cleared weeds and cared for plants at the Memorial. The wildflowers chosen for the meadow include perennial plants which provide food for bees, hummingbirds and butterflies, as well as other birds and wildlife. The preparation and seeding of the site will be the beginning of a wildflower meadow that will reseed itself for many years. Attached is the time-lapse video filmed and edited by Team Up to Clean Up Board member Bryan Vest. LOL
