We have a question on our job application we have people fill out, it is: You have a laser pointer and need to find the height of a building. Give us a few ways to find the height using the laser pointer. and tell us which one is best and why it is best. Got the best answers ever yesterday... You could shine the laser pointer at a nearby helicopter and flee to the top of the building. If you are lucky, the pilot will pursue you or call the police and - in the circumstance that the helicopter itself lands on the building to haul you off to jail for terrorism, you could check the altimeter. Unfortunately, it would be a pretty big risk for a small reward; unless there was a reward other than just knowing the height of the building, who knows? It could be worth it. If the laser is sufficiently powerful (many many megawatts) you could just aim it at the building and reduce it to a manageable height; or at the very least extract a cross-section of the buildings facade to measure laying out flat. Although, if I had a laser like that, I dont think Id be too interested in heights of buildings.
