We have been interested in congenital heart disease for a while, specifically in the consequences of the period where newborns are hypoxic- i.e. before their hearts are surgically repaired. See this article where we discuss the cardiovascular fragility that follows hypoxia in neonates: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21131074 I just saw an article suggesting that older patients with congenital heart disease have much more likelihood to be sick- despite repairs made in childhood. Is this period of hypoxia before repair the critical link? eurheartj.oxfordjournals.org/content/early/2013/07/22/eurheartj.eht257.short?rss=1
