We have continued to advance our methods and structure to help - TopicsExpress

We have continued to advance our methods and structure to help improve our team and reach further into the state and help our members achieve their targeted goals. Our structure in the 2013-2014 season continues to support this movement. This year we will be offering satellite location opportunities. On Monday and Wednesday we will have 2 satellite locations, one in Basehor and one in Gardner and Thursday we will combine groups at St. James Academy. We believe this will allow targeted practices to help specific individuals. We will be able to support greater one-on-one methodology and with the partners at our satellite sites, we will be able to better assess the needs and achievements of our youth. We will then have our practices combined with everyone at St. James once a week to battle-test our knowledge. The cost of the club will be $225 this year which starts with sign ups on Nov. 18th and precludes at the National Tournament in April. Since 2009 East Kansas Wrestling Club has continued to operate as one of the most prestigious wrestling clubs in the nation. In 2013 we capped off the year with a USA Wrestling Schoolboy National Championship performance. We also marked our 9th National Champion crowned. We are here to make champions. Our goal is to continue to operate for everyone to achieve their goals. Below are some of the attributes of the different sites, and a little bit about the coaches helping to support the specific sites: Gardner Edgerton High School Mon and Wed 6:30-8:00 Primary Coach: Eric Akin Contac- eric_akin@yahoo At our Gardner site we will have coach Akin taking the helm. Coach Akin is a legend in Kansas Wrestling. Few Kansas wrestlers have achieved as many accolades in their wrestling careers as Eric Akin. The three-time Kansas State High School Champion from Bishop Miege High School followed up his prep career competing for the stellar Iowa State University Cyclones. While competing for the Cyclones, Akin was a three time Big Eight Champion, four time NCAA All-American, and an NCAA Division I Finalist in 1994. His accomplishments awarded him the 1994 Iowa State University “Male Athlete of the Year” honor and the 1994 KWCA “College Wrestler of the Year” award. Akin continued his successful wrestling career by becoming a two time University National Freestyle Champion and a five time US Open National Freestyle Finalist and a one-time US Open National Freestyle Champion. He was a United States Olympic Team alternate both in 1996 and 2000. Also, he was a USA World Team member and a Goodwill Games Gold Member. During this time he won a World Cup Silver Medal and was a Pan American Games Champion. Basehor Linwood Sixth Grade Center (155th and Leavenworth) Mon and Wed 6:30-8:00 Primary Coach: Travis Phippen Contact-trav_phippen@yahoo At our Basehor site we will have Coach Phippen.
