We have had an unfortunate string of events that are making our neighborhood sound less than stellar. But fear not, we are not alone. Break ins and theft are usually at a higher rate in the summer due to many reasons, such as easier access to items and homes; most of the homes and their garages are unlocked while we do outdoor chores as well kids being out of school and getting into trouble. We also tend to be more relaxed in the summer, hence the many unlocked cars and so on. Break-ins occur all over the city and our neighborhood is no exception. It seems that we are hearing about more occurrences and we are. But theres a good reason for that. Its not because its getting worse, but because we have this page and we talk to each other on a daily basis. So we hear about EVERYTHING that happens within our neighborhood. Thats a good thing. But we need to keep things in perspective and take a moment. All were doing right now is creating a paranoid community and I dont think anyone wants that. I dont think any of us want our kids riding their bikes around the neighborhood to angry and suspicious glares from neighbors. I also dont want to think twice about taking a walk late at night (my husband and I do that frequently) only to have the cops called on us. I doubt that anyone trying to be malicious would walk arm in arm with their cohorts. So, I think, with some deep breaths and some preventative measures, we can discourage all of this from happening as much as possible. The link attached has some great tips on how to deter such events from happening. Lets try to stay positive. This page is meant for community engagement and involvement, which has been great so far. But lets try to keep things positive and figure out realistic solutions and helping each other by looking out without being paranoid. I love this neighborhood and I think its one of the best in the city. Thanks, neighbors.
