We have had many unique and exciting first experiences over the past year, one of which was participating in an audio story that set out to capture what was at the heart of River Rock, community. Tomorrow the story is being presented at the Nicollet County Historical Society’s Annual Meeting held at Gustavus Adolphus College. Come listen! Our story along with audio stories from Lindsey at Janelles and Rose over at Ace Hardware will have upcoming broadcasts on KMSU radio. We will keep you updated on when to tune in! Standing in Place: People, Places, and the Power of Audio Storytelling Keynote Speaker: Dr. Dave Engen When: Sunday, January 26, 2pm Where: Gustavus Adolphus College, Jackson Campus Center Drawing on several years of recording stories in Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties, Daves talk will explore the importance of those places between home and work (third places) where community is formed and celebrated. His presentation will feature several audio stories profiling individuals and places here in Southern Minnesota as well as explore the ways audio storytelling can be used to capture local voices and stories. Dave Engen is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is the author of The Wagon Wheel Project (with photographer John Cross) and the creator of Voices from the Valley, a website featuring audio stories highlighting people and places throughout Southern Minnesota. He teaches courses such as Communication and Community and studied audio documentary at Duke Universitys Center for Documentary Studies.
