The Coyotes put on a good showing against the Clovis High Cougars - TopicsExpress

The Coyotes put on a good showing against the Clovis High Cougars tonight in a scrimmage matchup. On the very first drive, QB Nathaniel Nelson and WR/RB Alec Gamboa reignited the chemistry they had all last season for a 58-yard strike. Several Coyote backs split carries, including yards leader Pablo Villasana with 26 yards on 7 carries. Several defensive players had their own notable moments. Roy Mitchell, a junior defensive lineman, was fired up after he secured a sack, WR Kristopher Bueno, doing double duty at cornerback, added at least one interception and a multitude of players rocked Cougar backs with big hits. The Cougars, for their part, looked sharp as well and took opportunities when they had them. Each team played with class and there werent any visible scuffles among players as the two high schools rebuild a scrimmaging tradition that lay dormant for years before returning last season. There werent any major injuries for either team, which is always a great thing coming out of an exhibition as well. All in all, a good night and a great test before next weeks season opener against Los Banos. As head coach Bonner Cunnings said to the squad after the game, a lot of good stuff. A lot of things we need to fix but a lot of great things as well. We have tons of potential and were going to bring it this year.
