We have taken care over the years to listen to what our customers need and we have designed our trucks accordingly, says Bob Wang, CEO of Powerstar South Africa. With this he summarises exactly what the company has on offer at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) 2013. Powerstar has launched ranges specifically for the southern African market – the updated VX range and now the new long haul heavy-duty V3. Updated features for the VX range include a trendy and improved cab design for extra driver comfort. Introduced in 2012, the VX range comprises the 1627 4X2, 1729 4X4, 2628 6X4 S&LWB, 2635 A 6X6, 2642S 6X4, 3335 6X4 S&LWB and the 4035 8X4. However, this range isn’t the only thing that 2012 delivered. Last year, we expanded our team of engineering and technical experts to be able to deliver high-end consultation with respect to early technical trouble-shooting and solutions. This has paid off significantly with our reliability levels – which have always been excellent – improving continuously,” Wang says. And these engineers and technical experts played an important role in the development of the new V3, as Mark Beukes, GM of Powerstar, points out. He says the V3 was on display at the previous JIMS, which was held in 2011, but that the model underwent some significant changes. We wanted to ensure that we deliver a vehicle fit for African conditions, he relates. So after 18 months of rigorous testing, Powerstar handed the vehicle over to some clients to examine thoroughly. The company states that this delivered a vehicle fit for our continent, which sports a Euro 3 Intercooled engine and with a maximum geared road speed of 111 km/hour. The vehicle has three different settinsg on the motor, which can be changed by the flip of a switch, depending on the payload of the vehicle – either unloaded, empty or fully loaded, and has a three-year/400 000 km warranty.
