We have the results from the Social Investors Forum! Spice Kitchen Incubator, a program of the The International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City, received $52,000 to support their commercial kitchen and training program that enables refugees to become successful entrepreneurs in the food industry. Comunidades Unidas received $35,000 in seed capital to create a low cost, high-quality immigration and naturalization legal services using an earned-income model. $100,000 was provided toward The Greater Salt Lake Development Corporation’s loan loss reserve fund. This will allow the GSLDC to begin making $10 million in low cost loans to small businesses, affordable housing, and community facilities serving the low income community. However, these were not the only victorious presenters –the investment committee also offered mentor capital and additional awards to the Winter Market, a project of Downtown SLC. In addition, the law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP will provide $5,000 in legal services to Spice Kitchen. utahcf.org/news-and-events/news/2014/11/news-187000-invested-in-sustainable-nonprofits/
