We have to, as ANC admit that thirty years in exile as created a huge gap, so huge that we did not prepare revolutionaries beyond exile in order to further and protect our democratic gains. Such a failure to produce disciplined revolutionaries has lead us to pick-up Human Resource that was opportunistically available to us as we were changing apartheid government to Democratic SA. Obviously, we have accidentally recruited opportunists; agents; criminally corrupt individuals- who in turn built mediocrity culture by deliberately recruiting individuals without political credentials who will forever be indebted to them-a member of a member!! Administratively, that has created bottle-necks which created an opportunity for corrupt elements to escalate without being reprimanded. One case-in-point is the current controversy in our public-privates institutions such as SABC; ESKOM; PetroSA- where the executive leadership is caught off-guard for intentionally claiming professional credentials that are not there. Our structural adjustment miscalculations are creating political gaps to be exploited by the opposition, in fact they are becoming legitimate at our own expense. So, what do we do, how do we correct our misfortunes going forward? We should both politically and administratively reflect not only before or during conferences or when we are gearing-up for elections but continuously around the year. We should do so by evaluating our general performance as an organization and establish skills audit of our politicians and administrators. We should do this by developing in-house development programs to avoid poor-work performance based on lack of incapacity. lastly, the organization as long decided on political schools to create a new cadre but this should be done in-separation of conferences and elections to avoid unnecessary delays of teaching and graduation processes. If cadre development program is to be the turning-point that we hope it to be, it must be taken lot more serous by dedicating necessary resources- HRM; Finance; Curriculum and time for it to be effective and grow the legacy of the centenary movement. veterans league should play a pivotal role in such a fundamental process as it we require a re-enforcement of fading values of the movement.
