We have to empower women. It will change the GDP of countries. We actually know that. And the way we have to think about empowerment is in three areas: health, decision making, and economic opportunity. So you start them on a healthy life. You make sure they can participate in something like mobile banking so they actually can participate in the economy, and you get them into school, because if you get a girl into school, the effects are tremendous, not just for her but the family. If shes in school, she gets married later, she has children later in life, so she doesnt die in childbirth, and her children are healthier. She also is likely then to send her own daughter to school, twice as likely, and her child is twice as likely to live to its fifth birthday, because the whole way she then accesses the healthcare system is completely different.
