We headed to the Dulles Airport as it was starting to drizzle. - TopicsExpress

We headed to the Dulles Airport as it was starting to drizzle. The drive took a little longer than we had planned for because of the weather so when we got there we had to keep moving to get our large bags weighed and checked. We finally cleared security and made it to our gate right on schedule. It seemed as though we only got in to our seats and the plane took off. Joseph had considered an upgrade but decided to ride it out with the rest of us when they told him it would be thirteen fifty. At first he thought he was good to go and then the attendant explained that it was $1350.00 and yet another heart was temporarily broken. God had an even better plan though... Half of the plane was empty so Joseph and Pastor David were actually able to have FOUR seats for the cost of one, and they were able sleep the night away just like at home on the couch. Roy and Darlene did not fare quite so well as they were seated in the heart of nursery land where all the babies were located. After about twelve hours we landed in Abu Dhabi where we had a three hour layover. Everything was going well until someone happened to look up at the departure screen in time to see that it said final boarding for our plane a full hour before the plane was scheduled to depart, and the gate was about a ten minute walk from where we were sitting. A mini travellers olympics developed with us all grabbing whatever was at hand and setting off at a really brisk pace even trotting along on the people movers to get to our gate where we found... a long line of fellow travellers waiting to cliimb on to a bus to be driven to the plane. It was a really eerie sight, driving on a bus in the dark along a road between two long lines of parked planes...big planes that were towering above us in the darkness. The next plane trip was about three hours and we all really tried to sleep since we had learned that we were going to arrive at 3:15 in the morning and the plan was to head out for a church dedication at about 6:00. Our thoughts of sleeping were thwarted by the fact that we had found a delightful espresso cafe while we were leisurely waiting in the food court of the airport just before we entered into the airport olympics. The really entertaining moment was when we all were trying to fill out our forms to enter the country. It was almost as if english was a whole new language, and numbers presented a unique challenge after being awake for such a long time. We looked like a bunch of poorly prepared students comparing notes at test time. Luckily we all passed and were allowed in to the country. We collected our checked baggage and schlepped it to the customs desk and then suddenly we were outside, reunited with our friend, Edwin. After lots of smiles and hugs all around we loaded our things and were on our way to the Compound where Mohan has his family house, a guest house, a church building and even a school. We were greeted by Mohan and his wife, Ronnie, their son, John, one of our drivers Malachia, and Ester, a woman who had been hindu and then gave her heart to Jesus, Praise God. Ronnie and Ester made us coffee that was simply amazing. We were able to then clean up and grab a change of clothes and meet for prayer before heading off for traditional Indian breakfast on our way to the church dedication.
