We hear the account of the Martyrdom of St. Stephen found in Acts - TopicsExpress

We hear the account of the Martyrdom of St. Stephen found in Acts 6 and 7 on Sunday morning. The word martyr brings to our minds death. To be a martyr is to die. The word martyr comes to us almost directly from the Greek of the New Testament in which it means - to testify or confess what you know and believe. Stephen is a martyr not because he died, but because he confessed Jesus as Lord. It is because of his confession he dies. As we hear Peter tell us in our Epistle – “you are a royal priesthood, a holy nation...that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of the darkness.” You too are called to be martyrs - to proclaim, to testify, and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord - crucified for the forgiveness of sin.
