English Book in Georgia English Book in Georgia (EBG) was founded in 2006. From the start the aim of the company was to facilitate the improvement of English language provision in Georgia by ensuring that teachers of English have access to a range of current, internationally accepted learning resources, including textbooks, teachers books, workbooks, CDs, DVDs, dictionaries, grammars from top publishers such as Macmillan Education, Oxford University Press, Pearson, Scholastics, DK Publishing, Penguin and many others. I will tell you briefly what “English Book in Georgia” has done all these years. Since 2006, we have been strongly cooperating with public and private schools, colleges and universities. One of our oldest partners has been Tbilisi State University. We have been providing university lecturers and professors from Philology Faculty with free of charge trainings, always conducted by native speaker course book authors and well-known trainers and methodologists. Since 2006 we have been cooperating with the Ministry of Education and Science. As we were working with the top publishers, they expressed their wish to collaborate with us for having accredited modern textbooks in Georgia, because the Ministry of Education and Science faced to various kinds of problems. Teachers needed to know how to use modern resources effectively. In 2010 - 2012 we submitted our partner publishers’ textbooks for approval at the Ministry of Education and Science and they got accreditation. Since then we have strengthened our connections with teachers. All 4200 teachers received free teaching sets in 2011 from Macmillan Education for primary classes and in 2012 the same 4200 teachers received free student’s books, work books, teacher’s books, posters, CDs, DVDs, flash cards from Macmillan, Pearson and OUP for secondary classes. The textbooks, students are now using at schools are modern, high quality materials. We give Georgian students equal opportunity to learn English with the same textbooks, which their foreign peers are using. Since our foundation we have organized up to 50 teacher trainings free of charge conducted by native speaker textbook authors and expert trainer. Our partners (Macmillan, Pearson, and OUP) regularly send us top trainers. Besides we have twice conducted intensive 3-day trainings for 4200 English Language teachers all over Georgia. Macmillan has held 3 international conferences in Georgia: twice “Successful English Language Teaching in a Changing Digital World” and the third one “From Shakespeare to Dickens” was in 2012, March 31- April 1, for public and private school teachers, lecturers and TSU students. It’s worth mentioning that TSU students took part in it. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science we did special courses for security officers and the ministry staff. We did methodology trainings for TLG, we did English courses for Supreme Court. With the Teacher’s House we conducted lots of trainings about classroom management, integrated learning, about how to use online resources in teaching process effectively, how to use music in the classroom. We conducted Integrated and certification exam preparation courses with the Ministry of Education and Science for public and private school teachers. Furthermore, we did a special course “English for Everyone”, this course was funded by the City Hall of Tbilisi and was free of charge for the residents of Tbilisi starting from age 25 to 80. We designed a special course for the whole Georgia with the same title: “English for Everyone” and 15 000 people from 20 regions did this 2 month course. All these years we have been working in two directions: book distribution and English language provision. It was a massive job and we decided to separate them and book distribution was left with the English Book in Georgia and English language courses and trainings were transferred to Unique Learning. In January 2012 we opened our training and language center, “Unique Learning”. The main aim of which is to create the best English language centre and give our students the unique opportunity to study English in the best way and help them achieve their goals.
