We hope everyone is writing letters to County Administrator Arnold and the Commissioners - now is the time or nothing changes. Each wasted day to make your voice heard, to speak up to stop the killing at Sumter, is costing more innocent lives. They kill every week. Todays Friday - Kill Day at Sumter. When you ask for change, you have to watch for the three Ds which are used by politicians: DENY: that there is a problem because nothing better can be done (said with authority) DELAY: we will address that next year DESTROY: the messenger (discredit) Why is it that most people you talk to feel badly about the animals in our shelter? With influence from the public we could feel good about lowering kill rates and saving lives. Other communities are doing it. This is our opportunity as members of the community to have a voice about the future. The tragedy is that we have the funds, the knowledge, and the people in the community who can challenge the status quo and demand change but dont - so authoritarians with no compassion or knowledge in shelter management or reform continue to rule. Yet we are all free to speak up for the animals at the shelter. It will take more than share or like on a facebook page. Write letters, send emails, call, and attend the County Commission meetings. Government is not those few county employees, County Administrator Arnold, and your elected county commissioners. It is “We The People”. We can network to get more people involved - we can use our time to save innocent lives at the mercy of those who simply dispose of them. Flood their inbox.
