We just got home from a very long stressful day of driving and appts at Vandy. Thankfully we had a few highlights by getting to see our friend Eren and one of Elis favorite drs Amy Fleming! We hit some pretty bad storms on the way there and on the way back, but God highlighted it with several beautiful rainbows to remind us He is with us always. Unfortunately Eli will not be able to start school this week. He will have to wait for a couple more weeks. His blood work showed that he was having a reaction to the IV antibiotic he was on, so we discontinued it and also pulled his PICC line (long term IV thats in the main artery). His neutrophil count was very low (marker in the blood that helps fight infections and viruses) also his CRP is elevated (marker in the blood that represents inflammation and shows the body is trying to fight infection). So they are putting him on 2 different oral antibiotics. They had to pull his PICC line because its a very easy way for an infection to get into the blood stream, especially since hes low on what he needs to fight it off. Now we are fighting to get those antibiotics, Vandy faxed the order to the pharmacy & they are saying they dont have it & even if they did they have to talk to the dr and get verbal authorization that he is ordering it and that he actually needs it. (Silly me I thought thats what the prescription he faxed to them represented) unfortunately its a weekend now, so Im hoping we can get this straightened out. But due to the fact that he is at high risk of infection right now and has openings in his spinal canal he is going to be restricted on exposure for a couple more weeks. He will have follow up blood work next Wednesday to reevaluate.
