We just heard of a case so tragic, we felt it important to share. THIS WAS NOT OUR RESCUE but a local shelter. A boxer mix was adopted from a local shelter. The family brought their own dog to meet the shelter dog. They got along fine in the shelter yard so they adopted the new dog. They put both dogs in the back seat of the car together and started to drive home. This dog had been in the shelter waiting for 5 weeks. He was stressed. A serious fight broke out in the backseat of the car between the two dogs. The shelter dog was immediately returned to the shelter and was likely put down due to aggression. This situation is so tragic and so avoidable. We often get adopters wanting to bring their dog to meet the new dog. This is exactly why we caution against this. Dogs need to be properly introduced using slow introductions once the new dog has been given time to decompress, especially when a dog is coming from a high stress environment like a shelter. Never put two dogs that dont know each other into a car or any small space together unless there is a crate or some other way to separate them. So sad.
