We know today will bring an onslaught of posts regarding The New Year. But Gods calendar is forever. His new year is not tonight. The New Year, according to scripture, is the first new moon after the barley turns green. The bible calls this month Abib or Aviv. Only by checking the state of the barley crop can we fulfill the Biblical commandment to Keep the Month of the Aviv (Deut 16:1). In Leviticus 23, Moses instructed the people that Aviv or Abib was to be the first month. The celebrating of New Years on January 1st, most believe, in 1582, when Pope Gregory XIII decreed the adoption of the “Gregorian calendar” — named after himself — which moved New Year’s Day from the end of March to Jan. 1. Think about it. A new beginning in the dead of our winter season or in the spring season of new growth? This is NOT the month of the ABIB. Therefore, this is not The New Year according to God.
