We live on an oasis in space. The canoe is our island, and the island is our canoe. Life is a canoe. A canoe is life. All the lessons of life are present in the waa. For the waa to move forward, all paddlers must blend and work together as one. Six separate hearts beating and paddling as one. All must pull the canoe together. For communities and families (ohana) to properly exist, all must work together, as in the canoe. ...Always. Those who do not contribute, must be encouraged to blend with the rest. If they do not, the entire community, the island, the canoe, will suffer. This must not happen. In ancient times, survival depended upon these laws. Providing water, food, and shelter were a daily responsibility to survive. There is no room for those who do not do their part to blend. Their seat must be given to another, who will. There is no better feeling than to paddle a waa with a crew that blends. The waa glides on the water. There is no stronger family, than one who blends. He waʻa he moku, he moku he waʻa.
