We lost out on the Indian counterparts to Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn during the 19th & 20th centuries. No inspiration for kids to develop enterprise unless they were born in traditional merchant families. Macaulay imposed a robot manufacturing factory on us and we raced to get our necks under the guillotine with a religious fervour. Add to that the proliferation of leftist do-goodedness in our social & political narratives that created this false stigma called child labour. Ergo...we are where we are & what we are.
