We love Greys Anatomy and I think its great that Shonda Rhimes is - TopicsExpress

We love Greys Anatomy and I think its great that Shonda Rhimes is African-American and wants to have a show full of African-American surgeons, but when does it become not ok that there are basically no Jewish doctors in the world she has created for her show? For nine seasons, the one token Jew was an Asian character named Cristina, and now shes leaving. But are there major hospitals in the US without any Jewish doctors? Is it just that I live in LA? There are certainly other groups that are overrepresented in the medical world and underrepresented in Greys Anatomy, but for now I am thinking just about the Jewish issue. On the other hand, despite the large number of African-American doctors, I cant recall the show ever dealing seriously with racism or the black experience (other than this last episode, which included an anecdote about racism experienced in the distant past by the character of Catherine Avery). I wonder if there has been any serious critique of the post-racist, Jew-free world created for this show.
