We mentioned in our media release yesterday that the 2014 Budget ended funding for the National Congress of Australias First Peoples - but noticed today that the Budget also cuts $8 million over next 4 years from the Indigenous Languages Support Program. It was only three months ago that the governments Minister for the Arts, George Brandis, said the program has been a vital tool for maintaining, reviving and sharing Indigenous languages and that the government is committed to helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples keep their languages alive. In total the Budget includes over $500 million in cuts from Aboriginal services.
