We met with neurology today about Mayas back pain issue. We were looking for an answer--poor babys been suffering through this since early October with no explanation. Answers? Well, maybe. Better than weve gotten before from anyone. After reviewing the MRIs of her spine the doctor feels strongly that the small lesions are putting pressure on surrounding nerves when Maya sits or lays in a certain way. He says that it could be bone pain but for how sharply and quickly it comes on he feels strongly that it is nerve pain being created by these small lesions. Finally a plausible answer that can be treated. Thanks neuroblastoma for yet another issue to deal with. Since this is a problem Maya complains about 4-6 times a day, he offered a medication to treat this problem. I am not big on medicating. I dont give medicine or antibiotics unless they are really needed. Ill suffer through a headache. I let things run their course whenever possible. I believe that the body is able to heal itself to some extent and that it is important to let it. So, I am really struggling with giving Maya this medication. I am going to do some mommy research and see what I can find out about it, the side effects, and just how powerful it is. The doctor is starting her on the lowest dose possible. Its either medication or pain. I would ideally prefer neither, but its quite obvious that after 5 months its probably not going to fix itself.
