We only picked up yesterdays mail today when we got back.. and I was surprised to see two letters (one for each of our dogs) from our former vet surgery... all very friendly and telling us they were of an age to get checked out more regularly etc.. Not that unusual, you might think, and why would I be seeing red..? Well, its only the vet that SERIOUSLY let us down when our last dog, Biggles, was dying. Wed had 16 years of fantastic treatment from that surgery (and the core staff there.. nurses, receptionists etc are STILL lovely folk, but dont have a say in things any more) until it was taken over by a vet group from elsewhere, who have numerous satellite surgeries. Wed been assured by one of their vets that, when the time came, Biggie could be put to sleep at home, as our other dogs had. When we called - it was a weekend, but during the day - we were brusquely told just bring the dog down to us!!! They point blank refused to send anyone to us, so we had to get another vet to come.. Luckily we knew of one, who had previously worked there, but set up his own practice. He was an absolute gem and came out right away, and treated Biggles with the care and compassion we would expect. We immediately moved Sylvie & Algie over to him - and are very glad we did so. A real example of a local vets becoming part of a big corporate group, who are so interested in just making money that they dont give a damn about the animals or the feelings of their owners. It might just have been an oversight to send us those letters, but I felt it was symptomatic of their lack of care and service.. Were just another name in the corporate address book. Ive just written a pretty scathing reply to them.
