We posted brief details of the RunSpark event here yesterday - heres more information from the organiser and one of the speakers, Ira Rainey, who emailed us yesterday: Forgive the unsolicited nature of this email, but I just wanted to bring to your attention something that could well be of interest to your club members. My name is Ira Rainey and I am a runner, parkrun director and writer (author of Fat Man to Green Man: From Unfit to Ultramarathon). I am also now the director of a new running related event I am putting for Macmillan Cancer Support called RunSpark. The idea behind the evening is to provide running-related motivational and inspiring talks to spark the belief in people that they can do more with their running in 2015. The entire event is being run as a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support whom I am involved with, and all proceeds from the evening are going directly to the charity. Nothing like this currently happens in Bristol, or even the South West and I know there is a desire for it, with a huge population of runners in the region. Speakers for the evening include a short talk from Alice Young from Macmillan Cancer Support, myself talking about Fat Man to Green Man and the story behind it; ultramarathon runner James Adams, who has run pretty much every ultra on the planet, including MdS, Badwater and Barkley Marathons, not forgetting to mention running 3200 miles from LA to New York, and closing the show will be Shona Thomson, twice nominated in the Scottish Adventurer of the year awards and one of only 20 women (1st Scot/3rd Brit) to run a marathon on each of the 7 continents including one at the geographic North Pole. There will also be a running-related raffle with awesome prizes up for grabs including race entries, merchandise and other great stuff. To top all that off we are planning on putting together goody bags for all attendees too. The event is taking place at The Watershed in Bristol, on Friday 30th January, from 18:30 - 23:00. Tickets went on sale last night when the website went live. They are already selling well and we fully envisage this event selling out quickly. The Watershed is a great venue for this event, right in the heart of Bristol and has a capacity of 120 (maybe up to 150 - still sorting that out). I have no doubt that those tickets will all sell and pretty quickly. Can you please pass news of this event onto your club members, either by word of mouth, Facebook/Twitter or via your own website. If you require any further information about the evening, checkout the website or drop me a mail back. Thanks for your time. Web: runspark.co.uk/ Twitter: https://twitter/@_RunSpark Cheers Ira Rainey
