We recently watched a dinosaur documentary about sauropods (long necks ;) ), and it kept making references to the difficulties of being so massive. Because of their great weight, they have to have 3 feet on the ground at all times, and yet the video shows males fighting and hind legs, and that sort of thing. Well, lets get back to the basics. We know that muscle fiber has the same strength for its size for the entire animal kingdom. We know that large elephants push the upper limit of how big animals can be today. The blue whale is the largest animal ever to live on this earth as far as we know, and its muscle fibers are nothing special. Its great size works because water supports them. With that thinking, when the brachiosaurus was originally discovered, scientists assumed they were swamp animals that spent the majority of their time in water. Then footprints were discovered- many, many land footprint fossils removed all doubt that these ancient giants WALKED the earth. So artists began an updated series of drawings and we have moved forward with it, despite the seeming impossibility. Ridiculous notions of 3 feet always on the ground do little to explain the vast size difference between the modern elephant and the ancient giants. Nor does it explain why, if size was an advantage from an evolutionary standpoint, we do not see other like-sized beast today. Theres a problem here, and a big one that the orthedox science is loathe to address, because the solution is quite simple: Our earth once had a much lower gravity force than it does today.
