We returned to Montana de Oro Park - Los Osos today and I got to - TopicsExpress

We returned to Montana de Oro Park - Los Osos today and I got to fly a new PIX4D 3D mapping mission with my Phantom Vision+. The software generates a 3D point cloud based on identifying thousands of matching points in multiple photos. The algorithm cant work with moving objects, such as water, because the same identifying points are not present from frame to frame. Thus, you can see how the 3D surface breaks up at the edge of the surf. There are ways to account for this and to also improve the 3D solution and I will be working on exploring various techniques next week. For now, however, Im very pleased with these early tests and I am really looking forward to the next software update from this great developer (PIX4D, by the way, happens to be a SWISS company. ... ). You can see me in the red shirt towards the lower left corner around 7 seconds or so into the video. In fact, that is all of us down there with our cases and copters.
