We rolled into Nashville around 6:00. As we drove by Bridgestone arena - on our way to Pucketts Grocery and Restaurant on Church Street for our pre-concert meal - we passed McCartneys crew fleet of red tractor trailers lining a block of 5th Avenue. We parked and headed to Pucketts. So glad we had reservations because there was 90 minute wait otherwise. The grub was good, service was nice, and the gin and tonic made sure we left happy. We got to the arena and into our seats, which were in another time zone from the stage, and settled in. The concert was to begin at 8:00 but did not start until 9ish. The young folks in the crowd of 18,000 grew restless, while the boomers nodded off and/or made three trips to the bathroom, making everyone in their aisle stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down creating a mini wave which was as cool as it was aerobic. Then, just as everybodys cell phone batteries were about to die, the customary lights dimmed and the roar erupted. 72 years young Paul McCartney, 1/4 of the Beatles and 1/2 of Lennon/McCartney jogged onto the stage, fit as a fiddle. Then there were three hours of McCartney/Beatles church. 18k folks, from babies to boomers, singing along to some of the most iconic tunes of the last 50 years. And I Love Her, For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite, Lovely Rita, Yesterday, Hey Jude, Lady Madonna and others flooded the arena and your memory with unforgettable melodies. He paid homage to John and George with Something and Here Today, the tears were matched only by the applause. Pauls vocals were clean and strong, the band and production were tight and entertaining. As Andy Griffith might shake his head and say That was um, um, um, way yonder good.
