We spent three days in Charleston SC this weekend. Charleston is a lovely city with wonderful historic roots. Later this week we are heading to Boston and all I could think of this weekend was the song from 1776 Molasses to Rum to Slaves. It highlights the connection between the two cities. I didnt take a lot of photos because I was too engrossed in what was going on around me. But I will post a few. An alligator for Jennifer Bowman. A Banana Spider - they are not venomous and eat a lot of insects but Ill take the alligator. Loretta - Sweet Loretta the French Percheron who pulled us around historic Charleston for 45 minutes. They take good care of their horses and mules down there. They have the same concern about their animals as the NYC drivers. The mules (who pull a wagon with a dozen people) are misted and cooled off after each ride. For Loretta, we had to wait until she had her proper rest before we could start. And she went at her own pace. The slave quarters at Magnolia Plantation - hard to believe we ever treated people like that in this country.
