We spent three hours with the lung transplant team today at the University of Utah Hospital. We were told that Teg has one to two years while taking and trying different medications including chemotherapy to slow down the damage being done to her lungs before she will need a lung transplant; after which, the average life expectancy after lung transplant is five and a half years. Teg is doing well considering what she is going through. She has told me many times in the past that she knows she is dying, and she stated today that she was not shocked by what the doctor had to say. She also indicated that she is going to live a lot longer than expected before needing a transplant; at which time, she will choose not to have one. Im hoping that she will decide differently when the time comes; however, she told me the other day that shes sick and tired of being sick and tired. My heart aches for her. I can not fathom what she must be going through or how scared she may be. She seems fearless. She is brave. Heart hurts - lungs tight - mind numb - soul devastated.
