We, the Sigma Kappa Pi Fraternity, demand the dropping of trumped-up charges against EKIT alumni member Gerald Salonga and Pi Sigma Fraternity member Guiller Cadano. Brod Gerald and Guiller are outstanding nationalists and members of their respective fraternities. They are active volunteers of the Kabataan Party List in Central Luzon. They are also alumni of the University of the Philippines in Clark, Pampanga and were fulfilling their duties as scholars of the people in investigating the social conditions of peasants, particularly in Nueva Ecija where they were illegally arrested without warrant last August 9, 2014 during their stay with farmers in Barangay RT Padilla in Carranglan. We deplore the systematic repression of the State which has employed arbitrary detention, maltreatment of prisoners, grave threats, grave coercion and torture to silence activists working for the legitimate demands of the people. To this day, the State and the Army has not surfaced two other UP student activists Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeno who disappeared in 2006 in Bulacan. The State has also failed to capture retired Major General Jovito Palparan Jr. who is charged with two counts of Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention in connection with the abduction of Sherlyn and Karen. We demand the safety of Brod Gerald and Guiller, their immediate release and their return to their respective families.
