We thought we should provide some guidance in regards to nectar - TopicsExpress

We thought we should provide some guidance in regards to nectar feeding due to a recent posting on OntBirds regarding the death of a hummingbird which may have been caused by spoiled nectar. The guidelines below are for all nectar feeders, hummingbird, oriole and butterfly. The "Change Nectar After" should be considered the maximum number of days between nectar change, changing the nectar more often is very acceptable. If at any time you notice a milky colour to the nectar, change it immediatley and wash your feeder with soap (do not use soap on plastic parts, glass is ok) or use bleach (full strength is fine) and rinse the feeder throughly. Feeding nectar is a great way to enjoy your birds and butterflies more but it does come with a little more work. Nectar Change Guideline Temperature Change Nectar After 22-24C (71-75F) 6 days 24-27C (76-80F) 5 days 27-29C (81-84F) 4 days 29-31C (85-88F) 3 days 32-33C (89-92F) 2 days 34C+ (93+F) Daily
