We typically utilize this format to provide facts and other useful information to empower patients and families. Today I want to bring the humanness into it all and send a message to a very special young woman who gave me pause: Some days it is hard to get up and work long hours, fielding phone calls, dealing with problem after problem only to end your day at 10 PM with just an overnight reprieve before starting it all again. Some days it is just thankless. Then one day someone shows you why you do it. You, my sweet angel, mustered all of your strength to drag yourself out of your wheelchair simply to provide me a hug of gratitude for working long hours, for never giving up on you and always being there. Thank you for your gift.
