We wanted to give you all an update on our relocation. This has been an extremely hard process and nothing is set in stone as of yet! The good news is we have found property and an offer has been made and accepted! But, one scary thing is that we have to go through the special exception process again in order to obtain a kennel license. As you can imagine, we are very, very nervous on whether one will be granted to us. It will be in front of a different board than last time. (Morgan County) The property is in a very remote area on 10 acres. So we are hopeful but cautious. Since we are on a deadline as to when the remaining rescues on the current property have to be relocated, we are also working on a backup plan, just in case, a kennel license is denied. Our purchase agreement for the Morgan County property has been written up to say that if a kennel license is not obtained, we will not be purchasing the property. We are going this week to seek out properties in Putnam County, where kennels are automatically allowed on property zoned agricultural with five or more acres. That way if a kennel license cannot be obtained, we will have someplace to quickly relocate to. The reasons why we would really prefer the location in Morgan County where a kennel license is required are: It has a modest existing home in wonderful shape. No major repairs will need to be made. There are a lot of trees, a pond and not a lot of yard to mow and tend to. Also, the trees make an excellent shade source for the dogs while in the play yards, not to mention they add some sound barrier. It is in a very rural area with very few neighbors. It is more convenient for our volunteers to get to. There are several outbuildings on the property, which include: (1) a two car garage (not heated); (2) two old style barns--one is in pretty bad shape and will likely be torn down; the other is in decent shape but could use a coat of paint and maybe a few repairs--could be used for storage; (3) another garage (not heated) but waterproof and could be used for storage of our fundraising items, tables, dog food, supplies, etc.; and, most importantly right now (4) a small heated pole barn with two car garage. This pole barn is currently being used as a man cave. Our hopes is that this will become our office of sorts, where dog meets and adoptions can take place and any initial training that may be needed. The two car garage attached can be used as a makeshift shelter for a few dogs until spring. Whether the purchase of this property goes through or if we have to purchase in another county, it seems we are going to have to build a pole barn next spring. Every property we have looked at (and we have looked at many!) do not have sufficient buildings to house our rescues in. Most are not climate controlled, or, they are not large enough. We are working on an online fundraising campaign that we are going to launch soon with more details. We are going to really need your support, like we never have before! We must raise $30,000 in order to build the pole barn that is needed. We know this is a very tall order and weve always tried not to ask for donations often. We have a very dedicated group of volunteers that go out and fundraise at events. But, weve never faced something so costly and we dont have a lot of time between now and spring. Once the online fundraising campaign is ready to launch, we will post it here and ask that you share it with everyone you know! Every penny we raise goes to our rescues. We have no paid employees. Its all volunteer based. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, so all donations made are tax deductible. We have a donate tab on our website. (waldosmuttleycrew) If you happen to donate that way, please make a note in the comments section on paypal stating your donation is for our rebuilding project. We are going to have a separate account keeping those donations separate from monies raised to pay vet bills, for supplies, etc. Thank you all for your kind words and support through this whole process! We are really hopeful the worst is behind us. There are so many out there that need help and its so hard that we have had to turn so many away! Hopefully SOON we can turn our focus back to rescuing and not frantically looking for property. **We will keep you updated as to when the meeting is for the Special Exception for the Kennel License. I need to verify the date and time. It will be held in Martinsville, Indiana.
