We were talking recently about having to create new terms. Ive had to do that here to explain an emerging trend in knowledge worker tools for the translation industry. Here is the abstract: Translation management tools have grown ever more ambitious, from the first workgroup servers to client/server architectures to web servers to multi-tenant services and elastic cloud deployment. The conception of the translation knowledge worker’s “workstation” has undergone continual change, in step with the underlying technology. The next browser-based dashboards, brim-full of linguistic tools and assets, will allow increasingly sophisticated online workers to organize their own virtual workstations. CSA Research calls these user-customizable environments of the near future “cloudtop” applications.
