We won! Acid sale regulations guidelines announced by the Government --------------------------------------------------------------------- We won! Two days ago, the Government announced that it wants to regulate and control the sale of acid in India. In the last 7 days, I mobilised over 27,000 people through my petition urging Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde, to curb the sale of acid in India. This public support along with my case in the Supreme Court has put pressure on the Government to act. Along with two other acid attack survivors, I delivered my petition to the Home Minister on 15th July. A day later the Government announced that they would regulate the sale of acid in the open market. If the proposed guidelines are implemented, shopkeepers will need a valid license to sell acid and the buyer should produce a valid identity card and address proof. I am sure this will reduce the availability of acid to those who will use it for attacking women. This is a great victory; But there are hundreds of people who seek justice for various issues in India. Thanks for supporting me in my fight, Laxmi
