We would like to applaud the efforts of our next door neighbors at Congregation Mickve Israel for taking action to prevent childhood hunger with their Backpack Buddy program. We see their dedicated volunteers in action, year round, on Tuesdays, packing the backpacks in our basement, and then again on Thursdays, delivering those backpacks to local elementary schools, so that children have backpacks filled with complete meals for the weekend. Theyve been doing this since 2008; this is the last load for this academic year! You, too should get involved: join the Backpack Buddy movement at your local congregation, if you have one, of start one and help grow this wonderful community program that feeds thousands of hungry children in our community.
