We would like to give a shout out to networker Jennifer N, for advocating, education and outreach. Last night Jennifer was reading on one of the many buy/swap/free/for sale/ garage sale type groups in our area. There are many and they are very popular and fun to swap or buy on. She found a post from someone giving away a 5-6 week old kitten. Jennifer knew this was much too young for a kitten to leave its mother, or be rehomed and advised the poster of this. She spent many hours researching the laws in Pennsylvania and did locate information on it being against the law to rehome puppies and ill advised to rehome kittens under 8 weeks of age. Jennifer composed a letter detailing this, as well as a great list of resources and local shelters to help citizens with neonatal pets, and sent her letter far & wide to the admins of these types of sites. Several have thanked her and agreed to change their policy on allowing those under 8 week pet posts. What a great example of a concerned citizen approaching an issue in a friendly and professional way to educate and advocate for the animals! Way to go Jennifer. :)
