Weah attacks referee in Uganda By MTNFootball Saturday Jun 08, 22:32 +0200 REACT IMPORTANTFUNNYWEIRDDISAPPOINTINGSADAMAZINGINSPIRING Milutin Sredojevic, coach of Uganda tries to console George Weah, head of Liberia delegation Losing is part of football, but former AC Milan striker and World Footballer of the Year George Weah could not take that when his Lone Stars of Liberia fell 1-0 to hosts Uganda in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Kampala on Saturday. After the final whistle, Weah followed the referee from Chad, Adam Cordier, as he walked to the changing rooms and tried to attack him, only to be stopped by security. Weah, who was the leader of delegation of the Liberia contingent, was reportedly not amused by the level of officiating. Two other Liberian players, including defender Alanadine Omega, had earlier, after the final whistle, also tried to confront the referee in the centre of the pitch, but security officers stooped them. Early in the week after training with the Lone Stars, Weah had promised that his team was in Kampala to grab all the three points. In 1999 when the Lone Stars visited Uganda for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, they also lost 1-0, with Philip Ssozi scoring the goal. Iceland based midfielder Tony Mawejje’s early fourth minute strike was enough to give the hosts a slim win which takes them second in Group J with five points behind Senegal, who were held to a 1-1 draw away to Angola.
