Weather Forecast for Puget Sound, Washington USA 11/15/2013 at 9:30 PM PST TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy to cloudy with showers, heaviest along/near the Cascade foothills. Sustained winds 15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph south of Edmonds, but 20-40 mph with higher gusts from Edmonds north, especially by mid evening onward. Lows tonight in the mid 30s to the low 40s, mildest near the Sound. TOMORROW: Puget Sound Forecast: Decreasing showers, remaining heaviest along/near the Cascade foothills, and possibly over north King and south Snohomish counties. Winds easing, mostly southwest at 10-25 mph, though variable in direction north of Seattle at 5-20 mph in the afternoon. Highs mostly in the mid 40s. Coast Forecast: Mostly cloudy with decreasing showers. West-northwest winds 25-40 mph. Highs in the low 40s. Mountain Forecast: Mostly cloudy with slowly decreasing snow showers; snow heaviest near Stevens pass. 12-24 possible there overnight Friday into Saturday, 6-12 Snoqualmie pass and 8-16 White Pass. Snow level 2,000-2,500. Pass highs upper 20s to mid 30s. Eastern Washington Forecast: Mixed snow/rain, especially in the morning, but accumulations of only an inch or two. However, from Ellensburg to Yakima and the Tri Cities, only rain showers will be likely. Strong gusty winds in Kittitas and Yakima counties. Highs upper 30s to upper 40s. WEATHER OUTLOOK/LONG RANGE TREND: A cold front will move through, probably Friday evening, followed by showers and cooler air. That will also generate gusty winds. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph will be possible over/around the Sound with gusts to 35 mph especially along or near the shorelines; gusts to 45 mph will be possible north of Edmonds. After the cold front moves through, the focus of the strongest winds will shift from Puget Sound (with slowly easing winds) to the area from Edmonds north. The cooler air will lower the snow level to 2,500-3,000 tonight, and as low as 2,000 Saturday. Heavy snow will be likely, especially near Stevens Pass. Showers will diminish Saturday though a convergence zone may still keep areas around northern King and southern Snohomish counties wet into the afternoon, the strong cool, moist onshore flow will also maintain showers along/near the foothills. Snow showers will continue in the mountains, but the intensity of these showers will diminish by afternoon, with only a few additional inches of accumulation. Moist onshore winds will produce more clouds and showers on Sunday. Next week looks wet off and on but computer models are disagreeing about the timing of the storms and the associated snow levels. Stay tuned....but do expect at least occasional showers. Jonathan Barker
