Weather update Fort Kent, Maine & Vicinity 6:50 AM ET | Friday, December 5, 2014 Sunrise: 7:05 AM | Sunset: 3:45 PM A very cold start to the morning--the coldest of the season so far with Fort Kent presently at -11°F / -24°C. Clear skies and calm winds have allowed for radiational cooling across the region as high pressure centered right over the region this morning continues to control the Valleys weather. Fort Kent residents can expect mostly sunny skies today with a high around 18°F in Fort Kent. Clouds will be on the increase as a low pressure moves through the mid-Atlantic region and and a cold front moves towards us from central Canada--all of which brings a round of snowfall with it tonight and tomorrow. However, moisture levels are not expected to be great, so only around an inch or so of new snow is anticipated. Cloud cover and southerly flow tonight will keep temperatures rather warmer with lows in the lower teens early--Fort Kent around 11°F--before temps. begin to rise through the overnight period. Southerly winds are expected in the 4-8 mph range. Saturdays Weather December 6, 2014 Temperatures will increase through the overnight period into the afternoon on southerly winds with Fort Kent reaching about 32° by afternoon. Light snow is expected through the day as a cold front approaches and crosses the region. This front will move through later Saturday afternoon ushering in another downward turn in temperatures as a large ridge of high pressure brings clearing skies and pushes more cold air into the Valley once again. Temperatures fall through the afternoon and evening reaching 5°F overnight. Southerly winds in the 4-5 mph range become Northwesterly behind the front and increase to 10-15 mph. Further Ahead Sunday will be another very cold day with high temperatures only reaching about 10°F. Northwest winds in the 10-15 mph range will make it feel even colder. Winds subside overnight with temperatures plunging to the -12°F range in Fort Kent. Monday remains mostly clear and cold with highs climbing to around 15°. Clouds increase later Monday as high pressure moves east--initiating another warming trend--and a cold front slides eastwards from the Great Lakes region. Mondays low falls to around 5°F. Snow is possible Tuesday into Wednesday with warming temperatures once more--around 31°F in Fort Kent and a low in the upper teens. Wednesday sees a chance for snow showers and a high in the middle 20s.
