Wedmore thirds finally won a game, for the first time this season. After yet another crunching defeat, by 4.30pm, in the less important league game captain, James McQuarrie and his Weston counterpart agreed to have a 10 over a side shootout, in the sunshine at Allerton. Weston batted first and started well, going at 9 per over and looking to post a high score, Wedmore’s bowlers, Matt Lacey, Jamie Balson and Finn Cavanagh all bowled well with Jamie taking the wicket of the opener, but Finn Wilkinson, with two wickets and James McQuarrie, with three in four balls, slowed down the run rate and gave the thirds a winnable total of 61 to chase. The thirds, as in all their league games this season, continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, while continuing to keep up with the rate, so it was left to Alfie Lavender (7 not out) and Jamie Balson, with an impressive 29 not out to steer them home, amid scenes of wild celebrations.
