Wednesday 5 November 2014 Firefighters tackling fires in Wollemi and Yengo National Parks The National Parks and Wildlife Service are currently working on five (5) fires within Wollemi and Yengo National Parks in the Singleton LGA. The alert status for these fires (listed below) is currently ‘Advice’. Current Incidents: Stockyard Creek – Singleton LGA: Yengo National Park Size: Approx 30Ha Being Controlled, This fire is located south west of Paynes Crossing and west of Stockyard Creek Road. Crews are direct attacking this fire with NPWS Remote Area Firefighting Teams and water bucketing helicopters, they are working to have this contained by later this week. Residents of Stockyard Creek Road will see helicopter activity in the area. Sheep Trig – Singleton LGA: 11km North - West of Putty - Wollemi National Park Size: Approx 25ha Being Controlled, Crews are direct attacking this fire with NPWS Remote Area Firefighting Teams and water bucketing helicopters, and are hoping to have this contained by Friday this week. NPWS have also identified a larger containment option as a fallback option that would involve Putty State Forest and Private Property. Old Settlers – Singleton LGA: Yengo National Park Size: Approx 670 ha Being Controlled This fire is located east of Putty Rd near Howes Valley. Crews are direct attacking this fire with NPWS Remote Area Firefighting Teams and Helicopters, and are working to have this fire at contained later this week. Fire managers have also identified a larger containment option as a fallback strategy that may involve private property. Wollemi Creek – Singleton LGA: 16km West of Putty - Wollemi National Park Size: Approx 75ha National Parks have 2 x Fixed Winged Water Bombers direct attacking this fire; this fire is located west of Putty Valley and West of Wollemi Creek. AppleTree High Range – Singleton LGA: South West of Jerrys Plains - Wollemi National Park Size: Approx 10ha Patrol. Jerrys Plains Rural Fire Brigade and NPWS crews are patrolling this fire. Residents may continue to see smoke from these fires, as well as helicopters and firefighting units in these areas as work continues to control and extinguish these fires. As weather conditions allow. Advice • While no properties are under immediate threat, people living in the area should ensure their homes are appropriately prepared. • If the fire approaches your property, follow your bushfire survival plan. • People with Health issues should take appropriate precautions, such as staying indoors and closing all windows and doors to protect themselves from smoke.
