Wednesday 7th May Koala Room Update: Music was a fun part of the day in the Koala room. Michaela sang the children several songs such as “Bears Are Now Asleep”, “Twinkle Twinkle” and “Baa Baa Black Sheep”. The children showed great enjoyment and joined in with clapping and rocking the bear to sleep during the wiggles song. Charlie and Ruby had great fun playing in our very own big red car. The children investigated all of the different fun things attached to the car. Today outside the children used their gross motor skills to crawl through the clear tunnel. Some of the children showed curiosity and were touching the tunnel while touching the child’s hand that was crawling through it. Possum Room Update: Bilby Room Update: The bubble wrap painting has been popular today. Its a fantastic sensory experience and the children enjoyed exploring the different texture and hearing the popping noise as they bang down to imprint the bubble pattern on their page. Luke decided to make some hand prints on top of his bubble print. Hudson laughed as he carefully peeled the bubble wrap off the page and said “bubbles.” At the chalk table, Eli and Chloe identified the colours of the chalk, “purple, and green, and white. Murphy said he was drawing a rocket ship. He began to draw something beside his rocket ship and explained “Now I’m drawing a small rocket ship.” Anon said he was drawing a lawn mower. Murphy played happily with the doctor’s stethoscope. He put it on the baby’s head and said “make better.” At the playdough table, Sallie said she made an ice cream. Rose used the scissors to cut pieces of dough and carefully put them in the muffin tray. Rihanna did the same and said “I got a cupcake on my jumper too.” Platypus Room Update: Today in the Platypus room Mel engaged in interactions with the children that promotes respect for diversity and values distinctiveness. The children were shown a range of different aboriginal art works. Mel discussed with the children the different colours and materials used in the paintings. She explained how using dots created the pictures. The children were then provided with resources to create their very own aboriginal masterpieces. Mel asked the children what their pictures were of - Marlie said ‘I’m doing a whirly snake”, Alex said “Dots yep lots of dots”, Summer said “I’m going to do a snake”, Ruby.C I’m going to draw a tail for a kangaroo”, Braedyn said “This is a snake”, Wyn said “using the colours orange and black”. Kangaroo & Emu Room Update: ‘First Best Friends’ is a story that explores how friendships in young children can dissolve temporarily due to misunderstandings between children. I read this story to the children and at the conclusion I discussed with the children what happened to make Jasmine and Timothy feel sad. I drew the children’s attention to the strengths that both children had. The children were able to express that they were both very knowledgeable but on different topics. After the story I encouraged the children to sit opposite a friend and draw the person they were looking at. While drawing the children were asked to identify something that there friend was really good at doing. Connor wrote his name on Graces piece of paper so she was able to identify that he is good at helping his friends. Harley said to Nathaniel that he couldn’t think of something he was good at. Nathaniel expressed to Harley that he would help him by telling him that he is really good at building with the lego. Lucas started drawing Ace but he left to go to Karate so Jenna jumped in to fill Aces place. Lucas altered his picture and said “Look, it’s you now because I drew long hair”. During the experience the children had the opportunity to express their ideas, give positive affirmations to their friends and feel a sense of belonging in their social environment as they received positive affirmations. The portraits the children have drawn are displayed along the hallway – take the time to see if you can spot your child’s picture.
