Wednesday March 12 (Day 28) By Mel & Lou Flaherty — 14 hours ago First month down. Quite a few to go. Day 2 of rehab was pretty good - I saw half of it. I got to wheel her around a little bit, down to speech therapy and back from physical therapy. All of the therapists were good about explaining to her what her deficits are and what needs to be worked on. Knowing her, that is 90% of the battle. She just needs to know what to fix and how to fix it. Tomorrow they will have a meeting to sketch out her recovery plan at Gaylord. The doctor gave me a preview and said it would probably be a month here at Gaylord, then on to another rehab that does not have the expensive medical staff, just rehab staff. The silver lining of that is we can probably find a good rehab place closer to home, so Sarah and I can pop in and out easier. The trache doctor says he is going to look at her Friday to see if he can downsize her trache one size. That should help her with passing air through her vocal cords. She is not yet able to get flow over them. Each day I show Mel the cards that folks send. She appreciates them all (and so do we). I want to give a shout out to the GHS Crew Team for a big card with lots of crew and coach signatures. That made her day. Once again I forgot to ask how to address mail at Gaylord so that it gets to her. Until I do, our address is still 294 Great Pond Rd. South Glastonbury, CT 06073. Meal Wars: As of tonight, Sasi Garigapati is kicking everybodys butt in the Indian food division, one of my favorite divisions. Delicious AND nutritious. Thanks, Ravi and Sasi (more superneighbors).
