Wednesday, May 21, 2014 prompt: arrival, the comfort of return, (deja vu) beginning a new adventure Kathabela photo and small album of our overnight stay in Shanghai on our way to India last Dec) (This is a day of arrival. We have flown into Pudong Airport, a spectacular arrival place, every 3 years since 2002. So this is our sixth trip to China, including our short stay on the way to India last year...! We have that feeling of the nourishment of return to the known, and to dear friends who invite us and care for us there, mathematicians who are fascinated by culture, art and history, and share all of this with us! Every trip has begun here in Shanghai, where the conference takes place, but then we take adventures to special places we have never been. In 2011 we visited Yellow Mountain, Nanjing, (where we met our now dear friend Huang Yiwei), and Jinhua where we found the art of Tong Zhang (we hope to see her again this time and present your tanka in person!) What adventures have you had --with this warmth of return simultaneous with beginnings, adventure, and lasting new experiments? This does not have to be far away... it can be going back to a hometown, or walking around the same block as usual... but seeing something new! How do these feelings come alive in your tanka?
