Wednesday, September 04, 2013 The Babylonians had come Jerusalem had fallen there was a small remnant in the land those that were poor those that had not been carried away to Babylon and the prophet Jeremiah. Fears filtered across the land and the few fighting men that were there came to Jeremiah and asked: “Let, We beseech you, Our supplication be accepted before you and pray for us unto the LORD your God even for all this remnant… That the LORD may show us the way in which we should walk and the way in which we should go.” Jeremiah said he would do so and that he would hold nothing back from them whatever the LORD said he would report. “Then they said to Jeremiah: The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us if we do not… all that the LORD your God shall send to us; Whether it seem good or whether it seem evil we will obey the voice of the LORD our God… That it may be well with us when we obey tHis voice” So ten days later God spoke to Jeremiah and he gathered together all the men and leaders and he told them: “…Abide in the land… Be not afraid… for I am with you to save you… I will show mercies to you… and cause you to return to your own land. But if you say We will not dwell in the land neither obey the voice of the LORD your God saying, No we will go to Egypt (which seemed like the safe place to be at the time, thinking that they will not suffer any loss nor have to worry there) Then it shall come to pass that the sword which you fear will overtake you there… and the famine… and you shall die there.” “And it came to pass that when Jeremiah had made and end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God… then (the lead men) and all the proud men said to Jeremiah “You speak falsely the LORD our God has not sent you to say go not to Egypt…” Because it seems like they had their minds made up they were going to do things their own way and they wanted God to bless it; and when He didn’t and when He told them not to do what they had intentioned to do they called His servant a liar. And they did what they wanted and they chose their own way and their wives made cakes to the ‘queen of heaven’ there, And they received the judgment of their actions and their rebellion. So when you come across the Hymn: Have Thine own way Lord, Have Thine own way Thou art the Potter I am the clay; Mold me and make me after Thy will While I am standing yielded and still. Consider in your heart all the things that all the people have spoken to God and not understood that He may not give you the desires that you want; but He will instead give you that which will be for your eternal weight of glory, Which will change you into His likeness create in you a clean heart a renewed mind to fill you with His own Holy Spirit and ready you for His eternity.
