Wednesday are waiting for Gary Madine to be sentenced before deciding on their next step over the striker. The legal sanction is expected to be made known today after he was convicted of two assaults last month at Leeds Crown Court and told by the judge that a custodial sentence was very likely. Madine has not been involved in Owls games since early August; he was laid off while he concentrated on the court case, and subsequently trained with Carlisle. Dave Jones said that the club had already taken his absence into account. “We have made provision for that anyway,” said Jones, “because Gary has been suspended with pay while we find out what the result is. “Once that is known, the club will sit down and make a decision on what happens.” Madine has two years of a four-year contract remaining, and when he was signed from Carlisle is believed to have cost £400,000, rising to £800,000 depending on possible add-ons. One of the things that Wednesday will have to consider is whether or not he has a future at Hillsborough. It is thought unlikely that they will be making any statement today immediately after sentencing {JL}
