Week 11 - 125th Recruit Class We started Defensive Tactics this week. The first day we had a full day of classroom instruction introducing the class to terminology and discussing what would be expected of us. Lt. Pikul and Sgt. Martinez asked us to make sure that we showed up each day motivated and ready to learn these important techniques that one day may save our lives on the road. They also made sure that we understood that some of us would have bloodied elbows and sore muscles. As a class we thought that staying motivated would be an easy task seeing that we pride ourselves in being known for high energy and enthusiasm. The second day we met in the classroom, first to discuss the rules and then we grabbed our bags and ran up the path to the Defensive Tactics (DT) room. We started with learning how to fall. This is important so when we are practicing the techniques, we learn to take the impact in such a way that we don’t injure ourselves. On Wednesday morning we got up for PT and many of us were sore and had pain in places we didn’t know we had muscles. We continued learning techniques, each building upon the other. We finished out the day and returned to our rooms to ice our bruised and battered bodies. Thursday we reviewed what we learned on Tuesday and Wednesday then worked on disarming a suspect. Friday began with a nice 4 mile run with Capt. Roufa and then back in the DT room for more defensive tactics. Lt. Collins is determined to ensure that the 125 is ready for whatever may come our way; no matter how large the suspect. The 125th Recruit Class made sure to keep our motivation high and we left everything we had on those mats. And we will be back next week, ready for more. Recruit Justin Keeling
